Brink of Destruction
Dozing off while driving resulting in the car veering off the road and you frantically try to recover before crashing. Ignoring a bill payment which results in collection, foreclosure or repossession of a home or automobile. Ignoring that nagging health condition only to find that if you don’t act soon, that health condition will become life threatening. Looking at the possibility of separation and divorce on the grounds of irreconcilable differences.
These are all scenarios of which we can relate as we’ve either experienced them or know someone who has. The committing or neglect of an act that sets off a chain of events resulting in a near loss of something or someone. Sobering to think about and more than enough to make you pause to take a hard look at yourself and quickly reassess life.
When dealing with something in your life that seemingly takes you to the brink of destruction, what in the world do you do? According to American composer John Cage, “Start anywhere”.
Oftentimes when we’re deep in the midst of adversity with no clear sight of relief or solution, we tend to panic and do nothing out of fear. However, we must remind ourselves of 2 Timothy 1:7 that God has not given us the spirit of fear. No matter what you do, do something. Sitting idly by in self-pity and doubt is not an option. “Commit your actions to the Lord and your plans will succeed.” Proverbs 16:3.
Whatever you have done (or not done) that has led to a brink of destruction situation, own it but do not let it define you as you move forward in life. In those situations, we tend to be hard on ourselves, uncertain of whether we can recover. Mistakes will be made in life, some of which come with major loss consequently. That’s reality. Here is some food for thought, there are more than 100 verses in the Bible that speak about restoration! So be encouraged that your life along with everything in it and around it can be recovered and put back together if you look to God as the source of your strength, provision and direction.
We encourage you to learn from whatever situation you are in whether you are still dealing with it, about to go through it or coming out on the other side. Notice, this blog title is “Brink of Destruction” not “You’ve Been Destroyed” so there is hope along with the potential to understand valuable insights and lessons to be applied in the future or to serve as a testimony for someone else in need. Proverbs 9:6 teaches us, “Leave your simple ways behind, and begin to live; learn to use good judgment.”
