We just came off an amazing and much needed vacation. Just the two of us. We decided to safely and responsibly defy Covid and make good on a trip we had been planning for about a year.
Our destination was dominated by sunshine, clear blue water and white sand. We intentionally packed relatively light. We were headed to a place we had never been before and so naturally we don’t know what we don’t know. And just with any new journey, in the back of our minds we want to be prepared for anything.
Up to and during our trip, we were met with a series of situations where our decisions would not have materially altered the trip itself, but they would nonetheless have impacted our travelling experience. Some of those situations left us thinking to ourselves “Really! Are you serious?” Other situations left us thinking, “What are we going to do?”
We agreed and committed to simply going with the flow. After all, spending more time worrying or complaining would be counterproductive to the fun and relaxation we were trying to experience. We adopted a “whatever happens” attitude and when we did, any worries, doubts, concerns and reservations all went away. Time no longer was a factor. We experienced the freedom of doing what we wanted, when we wanted even if it meant doing nothing at all.
Our vacation experience reinforced the “Go With The Flow” mantra and the importance of applying it to everyday life. Pastor Tony Evans said, “Our today represents the tomorrow that we worried about yesterday.” The Book of Matthew 6:3-4 tells us “So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today.” (NIV)
Certainly, things won’t always go as you planned and undoubtedly there will be unfortunate circumstances along your life journey. You will see the highs and lows. But it’s all a part of the experience God wants you to have. We believe that in those experiences, God shows up as the amazing teacher and problem solver that He is. So we encourage you to let go of whatever situation(s) you’re grappling with and we challenge you to simply “Go With The Flow”. It may feel uncomfortable at first but we are a witness that it gets easier over time and your stress levels will thank you.
